you and me and the dog

The SHOPHOUSE gals are dog lovers. Not a day goes by where we don’t stop dog owners on the street to pet their dog or gawk from across the way. Weirdos? Maybe a little.

As best friends since our high school years, we know each other in, out and backwards. For B’s wedding shower I bought this print and had it framed at our framer of choice, Frame Fatale. A fun homage to her relationship with her now husband and their fluffy Golden Retriever.

A huge part of our day to day work is designing some pretty amazing office spaces. We like our office design to be fun and make for a more collaborative work environment. We have been so lucky to design offices for numerous Inc. 500 companies as well as various other offices in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs. Here are some office spaces that we just love.

amazing office concept

We love the dark reception wall and use of reclaimed wood in this space. This simple and clean design is cool, but not in the ‘tried too hard’ kind of way.

cool entry signage for office

What a strong entrance. This sign is just fantastic. The bench desking provides collaborative offices to do just that.

glam industrial office

Industrial, modern and a bit glam. All the elements in this space come together perfectly. We will take this space any day of the week.

office

We recently designed an office with a similar feel. Partitioning off the space with glass is a great way to provide an open floorplan with some space for privacy.

office-installations

One thing we always like to provide for our clients is unique art installations. This one gives us the feeling that a SUPERHERO just left.

Today’s blog lovin post gives you a peek into one of the aspects of our job that we love, selecting art!

One part of what we do is commission pieces from artists and then custom frame each piece. We start by coming up with a concept, sometimes by collaborating with the artist and present it to our client.

We have been working on a custom frame for a print from the exhibition by British artist Damien Hirst. This specific print “End of an Era” was featured in a solo exhibit at the Gagosian Gallery in New York City in 2012 and was previously featured in a group exhibition at the Tate Modern in London. We absolutely love this gold, metal frame!

We rely on finding or commissioning the coolest art pieces to really showcase our clients personality. We love collaborating with artists to commission custom pieces that are edgy and unique.

This is the initial drawing of the proof. We wanted to use some rap lyrics and settled on ‘City of Compton’ from the song California Love. We met with the artist to come up with the type concept, a mix between script and Olde English (which pays homage to Eazy E). Both this piece and the Damien Hirst piece were done for a client in Rittenhouse Square in a historic townhome. In true SHOPHOUSE style, the pieces added the perfect amount of funk to the refined feel of the rest of the space.

Here is the piece installed in the clients home. We had it custom framed, with a simple black frame to really let the art shine..

We’re huge fans of prints, type and art, to check out some of our inspiration look at our Art page on Pinterest!
